Domaine Carneros Pinot Noir begins in the six different Estate Vineyards, which are green certfied, and are located within four miles of the Château. Eleven different clones of Pinot Noir are grown and each one contributes its unique flavor profile and personality to make this compelling blend, a true mosaic of the Carneros terroir. After an early-morning harvest, while the grapes are still cool, the handpicked fruit is gently destemmed and cold soaked. Fermentation takes place in small, open-topped vats with punch-downs, resulting in heightened color and complex flavors. After pressing off, the finished wine went directly into French Oak barrels where it rested for ten months until bottling.

Harvest Note
2017 growing season saw tremendous drought ending rainfall the extended from October through April. While December was quite cold, January and February were mild leading to an early bud break (starting on March 15th). Flowering was early as well, getting under way the first week in May, pointing us to an early harvest. The summer brought several heat spikes in June and July. August, however, was glorious with a beautiful cycle of cool marine air in the mornings to help modulate the temperature. The overall quality of the vintage is superb.
Tasting Note
Bright pomegranate and poached cherry notes on the nose. Juicy red and darker berry flavors on the palate are backed up by delicate spice notes and supply tannins. This intense, full-bodied wine delivers a supply and silky mouth-feel and a lengthy, warming finish.

About the Grape

Pinot Noir
In France, makes a silky, deceptively powerful wine of elegant, complex aromas and subtle, red fruit flavors, with earthy, floral, mushroom and mineral notes. In California, shows ripe, sweet characters.
