Pouilly-Fuissé Clos des Prouges 2023

Situated right in the centre of the village of Fuissé, this Clos is just over two "hectares" in size and is planted on a shallow slope that faces east. Although a small parcel of vines was planted in 2003, most of the vineyard dates back to 1956, and is therefore more than 60 years old, making it one of the oldest owned by the domaine.
Harvest Note
Winter and early Spring were unusually warm and dry however March brought much-needed rainfall which led to homogenous flowering in May. Stormy weather in June was followed by mild late summer, and an unusual September heat wave. Harvest was finished on September 16th, and by picking only in the cool morning hours freshness was preserved.
Tasting Note
Despite its typically Fuissé opulence, this wine is also capable of demonstrating great precision. Very reductive with a hint of wood smoke or flint, this wine is intense with a fresh and creamy texture at the same time. Notes of fresh hazelnut and bergamot characterize it.

AGING: Fermentation and maturation took place in barrel, of which 20% were new and 80% were 2nd, 3rd and 4th use. Maturation lasted 10 months, then the wine spent a further 9 months in stainless steel tanks on fine lees.

Though it has a distinctive profile, Chardonnay reflects other factors such as soil composition and vinification technique. Chardonnay is a reliable, hardy and prolific vine whose only real vulnerabilities are frost and uneven development of fruit.
