Les Clavelles express the terroir of Châteauneuf-du-Pape using only Grenache from plots atop Le Crau, the famed plateau. Loamy sands are dotted with galets or large pebbles. On a gentle southwest-facing slope, the vines benefit from direct sunlight in the late afternoon. The grapes are hand-picked and hand-sorted before whole clusters are fermented in a wooden tank. A long maceration lasts 3-4 weeks before aging for 12 months in foudres or large old oak casks and old oak barrels.

Harvest Note
The 2022 vintage was a challenging year. There was a strong heat wave early in the spring along with severe water deficiency until August. A tornado hit on August 14th with hail and wind causing considerable damage. The vines, however, were surprisingly resilient. Despite the intense heat, the wines are refined and balanced.
Tasting Note
Brilliant ruby red, this powerful yet elegant wine offers complex notes of dark cherry, blood orange, pastry, cocoa, sandalwood, cedar, and cinnamon. The finish is long and refined.
Food Pairing
On its own or with a lightly sweetened chocolate tart
