Les Clavelles is a single parcel of Grenache that sits atop Le Crau, the famed plateau of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. After years of careful selection, this plot of loamy sands dotted with large pebbles was identified for its unique ability to express the terroir of Châteauneuf-du-Pape within a single varietal. With a gentle southwest-facing slope, these vines benefit from direct sunlight in the late afternoon and the famed Mistral winds from the North. The grapes are hand-picked and hand-sorted before whole clusters are fermented in a wooden tank. Pump-overs and punch-downs occur daily during fermentation to ensure optimal extraction of compounds. Maceration lasts 3 weeks before aging for 12 months partly in foudres or large old oak casks and partly in old oak barrels.

2019 vintage
Harvest Note
The 2019 vintage had almost perfect growing conditions with the only challenge being a particularly hot and dry summer which started with a heat wave at the end of June that had temperatures approaching 106°F. Throughout the summer the temperatures stayed above 90°F. This harvest was historic with grapes being picked over a 3 month span: August 30 for the white grapes until October 1st, 2019 for the last Grenache grapes. Overall yields were good, allowing production of rich and dense red wines with lots of aromatics and remarkable length in the finish, and the promise of great aging potential.
Tasting Note
Ruby red with a garnet border, this fine and complex wine offers notes of plum, black currant, rose petals, and sandalwood. The long and lush finish showcases the minerality of this unique plot.
