Clos de Loyse is a 22.3 acre walled vineyard attached to a castle of medieval origin. It was the land of the Lords of Loyse until 1643, when Carthusian monks took over and cultivated chardonnay there until the French revolution. Chardonnay vines are grown a few kilometers away from Fuissé yet on a very different terroir from the rest of Southern Burgundy, with alluvial soil lying on a granite bedrock, giving its wines a fruiter character.

Harvest Note
The 2022 vintage began with an early start in mild February followed by a stressful early April freeze. Thankfully little damage was done, and the growing season continued but with very warm and dry conditions, so much so that the harvest was very early and yields were significantly reduced.
Tasting Note
This white offers a bright and energetic initial impression, with lively acidity and sleek texture. Citrus flavors are enhanced by subtle earth and saline notes, as the flavor profile expands over the elegant finish.
Food Pairing
Ideal on its own as an aperitif, or with lively casual seafood cuisine such as ceviche, sushi, or mussels.

About the Grape

Chardonnay
Though it has a distinctive profile, Chardonnay reflects other factors such as soil composition and vinification technique. Chardonnay is a reliable, hardy and prolific vine whose only real vulnerabilities are frost and uneven development of fruit.
