Grapes for this wine are sourced from the finest blocks planted by the founders of Résonance Vineyard in Carlton and the adjacent Jolis Monts Vineyard developed by the Maison Louis Jadot team. Both vineyards share similar terroir with some of the oldest soils in the region composed predominantly of basalt rock.
Founder’s Blocks reunites these properties that were once part of a singular estate, blending select blocks from Resonance vineyard with the masssle plantings from Jolis Monts. This wine expresses the history of the land, the inspiration of the founders and the collaborative energy between Oregon and Burgundy as reflected in two reunited vineyards.
Following a relatively warm winter, the growing season started out with dry weather conditions. Early heat in May was followed by cold periods in early June. Like in 2020, a cold and wet weather at the time of the blooming period caused smaller berries and clusters. The summer 2021 was warm and dry, with a heat spike at the end of June. From the end of August, the young vines started to show hydric stress, while the old vines withstood well. All our organic vineyards presented exceptional fruits quality, with small clusters. We harvested between September 9th – 23rd. In all our vineyards the fruits were ripe and very clean, with amazing color.
The nose is complex, with blackberry, lilac, black pepper, tobacco leaf, forest floor and noble wood fragrance. The palate reveals an elegant balance of ripe tannins, black fruits, vibrant minerality and long finish.
