The Brand Grand Cru is located on the steep granitic south, south-east facing hillside just behind the village of Turckheim. As its name suggest (Brand means hot, warm, burning), this Grand Cru is located in a warm micro- climate, but it is actually its soil, capable to heat up under the sun, that is at the origin of the name of this vineyard. The top soil is shallow and the mother rock is close to the surface. Being rich in black mica, it decomposes allowing the roots of the old vines to penetrate deeper in the granite. The black mica also produces a high quality type of clay that accumulate deep into the granite crevasses. This particularity is of great help during the hot and dry periods we get in Alsace in summer but also is a source of interesting minerals. Just like any other Riesling in 2021, the Brand shows a great balance and racy acidity. The fermentation was very long but the wine eventually finished in a very dry style.

Harvest Note
2021 was a challenging vintage which resulted in small volumes of extraordinary wines. The frost of April 6th significantly reduced the final harvest volumes. June & July saw heavy rains leading to rapid growth but unfortunately mildew also. August and September were sunny and dry, with harvest from September 15th to October 2nd. The small crop fermented quickly, alcohols were below usual levels, and all wines fermented completely dry.
Tasting Note
Bright pale yellow color. Expressive nose focusing on minerals, wet stones with great intensity and purity. After some aeration, it eventually shows citrus fruit, lime, and a discreet touch of ripe fruits. The wine is even more expressive on the palate with a complex display of white fruits, citrus and again the classic granite signature of minerals. The Brand produces very elegant wines with a distinctive intensity and power, showing all the sun energy on this sunny vineyard. Very long, it also has a velvety touch that becomes stricter on the finish. The acidity is salivating and inviting! The 2021 is a delicate and intense pure expression of this vineyard.
