The Brand Grand Cru is located on the steep granitic south, south-east facing hillside just behind the village of Turckheim. As its name suggest (Brand means hot, warm, burning), this Grand Cru is located in a warm micro- climate, but it is actually its soil, capable to heat up under the sun, that is at the origin of the name of this vineyard. The top soil is shallow and the mother rock is close to the surface. Being rich in black mica, it decomposes allowing the roots of the old vines to penetrate deeper in the granite. The black mica also produces a high quality type of clay that accumulate deep into the granite crevasses. This particularity is of great help during the hot and dry periods we get in Alsace in summer but also is a source of interesting minerals. Just like any other Riesling in 2021, the Brand shows a great balance and racy acidity. The fermentation was very long but the wine eventually finished in a very dry style.
