The Pinot Gris Roche Calcaire is mostly originating from the vineyards planted in 1992 on the Clos Windsbuhl. They are usually picked a little earlier than the old vines of the same grape variety as we do try to avoid any over-ripeness. Pinot Gris can be a relatively difficult grape to ferment dry, especially when its acidity is high. It tends to behave like a Riesling and fermentation can last over a year! The Muschelkalk limestone brings a great structure to this grape variety and in the vintage 2021 it is particularly obvious to taste it.

2021 vintage
Harvest Note
2021 was a challenging vintage which resulted in small volumes of extraordinary wines. The frost of April 6th significantly reduced the final harvest volumes. June & July saw heavy rains leading to rapid growth but unfortunately mildew also. August and September were sunny and dry, with harvest from September 15th to October 2nd. The small crop fermented quickly, alcohols were below usual levels, and all wines fermented completely dry.
Tasting Note
Pale yellow color. The nose shows tight, fresh citrus fruits and some light smoky/lees influenced aromatics. Aeration allows the aromatic to open up towards fruity flavors. The limestone soil influence is clearly identifiable on the pallet of this wine. It shows a bright acidity and quite tight structure. The finish is elegant and lively. A food friendly wine that will definitely improve in the next few years!
