Created as early as the 18th century and served in the royal French courts, rosé champagne is at the very source of the success of champagne in general. A symbol of joyful, liberated luxury in the “Roaring Twenties”, it is still highly prized today. It becomes an extremely rare, very exclusive pleasure with the Comtes de Champagne Rosé. This cuvee is only produced in exceptional years and is made from 100% Grand Cru Grapes. The Chardonnay grapes come from the most renowned vineyards of the prestigious Côte des Blancs, and the Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims. Only juice from the first pressing is used in order to ensure the structure and long aging potential that is so essential to this exceptional Champagne. 12% of the Pinot Noir is blended in as still red wine.

Harvest Note
The year began with a harsh winter, characterized by severe frosts and frequent snow. Milder weather arrived in April and saved the vines. The vegetation, then, grew quickly immediately after bud break. A sunny, dry, hot August, with cool nights, provided ideal conditions for the grapes to ripen. The dates for starting the harvests ranged from September 8th to 21st. The bunches were in excellent health and benefited from summery weather during the picking. The Chardonnay wines were rich, structured, and varied. They offered a broad range, from fruity, grapefruit freshness to a more evolved character with aromas of pear and pineapple. The Pinot Noirs presented an intense bouquet with fresh notes of peach. On the palate, they were generous and full-bodied. Some expressed a superb minerality. Good acidity and remarkable freshness suggest that 2009 will be a high-quality vintage.
Tasting Note
Notes of Morello cherry, blood orange, vineyard peach, and wild strawberry. On the palate it is incredibly fruity, fresh, and elegant.
Food Pairing
Pairs well with white meats, lobster, cheeses such as chaource, or baked pears or morello cherry tart.

About the Grape

Pinot Noir
In France, makes a silky, deceptively powerful wine of elegant, complex aromas and subtle, red fruit flavors, with earthy, floral, mushroom and mineral notes. In California, shows ripe, sweet characters.
