Nero d’Avola vines are 25-30 years old, planted with a southern exposure at 80 meters above sea level. Yields are 6.6 tons/acre, to encourage aromatic depth and flavor complexity. In the spring, the vines are pruned to one bud per plant, and in June/July, a green harvest eliminates lesser grapes. Twenty days prior to harvest, there’s an additional cluster thinning, or a selection of the best grapes in the bunch. To develop superior aromas and texture, the wine is aged in steel tanks rather than oak to retain the grape’s fresh, crisp and fruity characters.

Harvest Note
The winter has been mild and wetter than usual, feeding the underground water reserves so precious during the summer. After pruning, the vines wept profusely, manifesting the exuberance of the season a few days later. The saplings of Feudo Maccari sprout, first the Grillo then the Nero d'Avola, and in no time they reach the height of the stake that supports them. Spring is very fast and June already has summer temperatures. Summer is the season that most symbolizes these territories; the wind cools the microclimate of the clusters in the sapling. Healthy grapes predict in an excellent result that comes with the September harvest. Ripenesses are excellent and clear, phenolic ripening homogeneous, certainly a vintage of balance and elegance that exalts native varieties such as Grillo.
Tasting Note
Light pink colored wine with delicate notes of wild red fruits, raspberry, pomegranate and grapefruit. Soft and fresh on the palate, tasty with light tannins.
Food Pairing
Enjoy with roasted salmon, light cheeses or on it's own as an aperitif
