In 2022, the Roche Calcaire entirely originates from the younger vines of Pinot-Gris planted in 1992 on the Clos Windsbuhl. Like many other Pinot-Gris in 2022, it was crucial to harvest them at a precise date in order to avoid over ripeness. Pinot-Gris is a fantastic grape variety, but just like its brother the Pinot-Noir, it requires a good terroir, reasonable yields, and a quality selection of clones or massal selection. Planted on a limestone geology, this grape variety will acquire a tighter structure and firmer acidity. So, despite the heat during harvest, the 2022 vintage of Roche Calcaire retained good acidity and managed to ferment bone dry.
