Grapes come from parcels within the Mâconnais area, yielding the highest-quality fruit of the harvest. Vineyard soils have a high percentage of chalk and limestone, which imparts mineral character and nuance. Mâcon-Villages is vinified with no oak contact to retain the elegant aromas and clean, fresh character that this region is prized for.
Harvest Note
The vintage started with a particularly mild and dry winter. April was cooler with several late frosts, but mid-April bud break helped to protect the tender buds from damage. The growth cycle accelerated in May thanks to warm temperatures that prevailed mid-month. Flowering was relatively early, with the first signs seen at the end of May. Towards the end of June and the beginning of July a few thunderstorms helped to top up the water levels. Veraison began during the first few days of July. The weather in August was more variable, with strong growth at the beginning of the month, followed by ten days of intense heat, which blocked further ripening. The return of milder temperatures and some showers allowed maturation to continue, and it wasn’t until the start of September that the grapes were ready for the start of harvest.
Tasting Note
The wine shows floral, apple and citrus aromas and flavors, with mineral notes; a classic expression of Chardonnay from this appellation.
