This significant Premier Cru parcel was acquired by Jadot in 2017 with the purchase of Domaine Prieur-Brunet. Extensive subsequent renovations to the vineyard have elevated this wine's quality year after year. Centrally located on the slope and facing due southeast, this steep site is quite stony near the top with deeper clay soils as one descends. This vineyard takes its name from a hospital which treated travelers returning from the Crusades of the 13th century.
Harvest Note
The 2021 vintage was memorable for the extreme challenges it posed to growers. The defining event was a hard freeze in April which lasted several days, and the subsequent dramatic reduction in harvest volumes. Added to this were cool and wet summer conditions which required constant vigilance. The delayed harvest eventually yielded tiny volumes of pristine grapes which express a vibrant and energetic purity.
Tasting Note
This red wine is expressive with brightly focused floral and underbrush notes, tangy cranberry fruit, and elegant tannins. The wine opens quickly and is enjoyable fairly soon after release when its fruit is most vibrant.
