Beautiful sweet cherries at the front, then the tannins come through and make a serious statement on the generous palate for this appellation. But the winemaker really got this one down, so there’s not a jot too much tannin. Lovely blood-orange acidity at the generous finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

La Maladière is known for its rich, muscular expressions of Santenay and this full-bodied, densely concentrated red fits true to type. Black-cherry and plum flavors are pristine and ripe but framed by firm, fine-grained tannins and a rigid, stony undertow. Cellar Selection.

A dramatic wine for this underrated appellation. So much black-cherry and red-beet character that it almost bowls you over. A very expressive and lively wine that’s also got plenty of earthy depth, the fine tannins building to a real climax at the final.
