Bouvet Ladubay is one of France’s greatest producers of méthode traditionnelle sparkling wine from the Loire Valley. Bouvet sources its fruit from over 100 plots through long-standing relationships with winegrowers. The region is known for its tuffeau stone, a local chalky limestone used to build the numerous castles that dot the Loire Valley. This limestone soil is ideal for the cultivation of Chenin Blanc. All grapes are hand harvested and fermented in stainless steel tanks. The second fermentation occurs in the bottle and the wine spends a minimum of 18 months on the lees. The cellars of Bouvet are an ancient tuffeau stone quarry, the perfect environment for aging wine.

Harvest Note
The 2023 vintage was challenging for the Saumur region of the Loire Valley. The season began well with little frost damage, and ample rain in April created good growth conditions with fine weather in May. The weather turned almost tropically warm and wet in the middle of June, creating a threat of mildew. Dry warm weather returned in August, and September rain refreshed the grapes before harvest which resulted in high quality grapes for winegrowers that managed their vineyards well throughout the challenging growing season.
Tasting Note
Gold in color with hints of amber and fine bubbles, this well-balanced and elegant sparkling wine has notes of toast, green apple, and lemon.

About the Grape

Chardonnay
Though it has a distinctive profile, Chardonnay reflects other factors such as soil composition and vinification technique. Chardonnay is a reliable, hardy and prolific vine whose only real vulnerabilities are frost and uneven development of fruit.
Chenin Blanc
Depending on the soils, Chenin Blanc can be lush, with stone fruit and pear characters; or quite dry, with green apple and beeswax notes.
