2020 vintage
Harvest Note
The 2020 vintage began with a mild winter with sporadic rainfall. The sudden return of colder temperatures in March brought a frost that occurred at the end of the month, causing some damage to the newly hatched buds. Temperatures increased from mid-April with spring regularly supporting good flowering and fruit sets. These took place between the end of May and the beginning of June. The summer was generally hot and dry, but without high heat peaks. September could be described as having above average temperatures until the very last week of the month, the period thereafter was a generally a cool and rainy climate that lasted until October.
Tasting Note
This wine, characterized by a remarkable density, combines its impenetrable dark color with very rich scents blending blackcurrant and blackberries jam, with savage tones of black truffle. On the palate its volume is exceptional, opulent, with very subtle tannins.
Food Pairing
Pairs well with meats. Villa di Nozzole recommends pairing with wild boar stew with chanterelles and blueberries.

About the Grape

Merlot
Merlot makes plump, succulent wines to drink young or opulently massive wines for aging. Has silky, blackberry and currant fruit, with spice, earth, tobacco and chocolate notes, and soft tannins.
Cabernet Franc
Cabernet Franc usually shows tart red cherry and wild currant aromas and flavors with an herbal, spicy character. In the Loire, esp. Chinon and Saumur-Champigny, this grape shows firm minerality.
