The Bolgheri DOC, on the western edge of Tuscany bordering the Tirrhenian sea, came to the world’s attention in the 1990s for its quality. The area’s exceptional climate is moderated by sea breezes, and the vineyards’ clay and sand soils are ideal for Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The delicate Merlot is picked during the first half of September, while robust Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot are harvested in the second half of the month. Grapes come from densely planted vineyards and low yields, which produce wines with concentration and complexity. Temperature-controlled fermentation is in stainless steel tanks, with maceration on the skins. Malolactic fermentation takes place in steel before the wine is matured in oak barrels and at least three months in bottle before release.
The wine shows true Super Tuscan aromas of red fruit and licorice, and rich flavors with a velvet texture on the palate before an extended finish.
