“Barrua” is the name of the vineyard parcel within the Sulcis Iglesente region in southwest Sardinia. Grapes are sourced from the Barrua and Narcao vineyards. The Sulcis region is dominated by Carignano, the blend’s predominant autochthonous grape that is known for its elegant and velvety tannins. Carignano has perfect terroir in the warm, well-exposed brown earth, composed of calcareous, clay and sandy soil. International varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot also thrive in the area’s optimal conditions. Production per hectare is low (about 5,000 liters/ha). The final blend is a mix of these grapes balanced for the best results in the specific conditions of each harvest.

Harvest Note
The 2017 season in Sardinia will be remembered as one of the driest years in modern times. There was very little rain during winter and spring, followed by a long hot summer with heatwaves during July and August. Irrigation helped a lot during June and July as well as the positive influence from the nearby sea which contributed to cooling down the daytime high temperatures. This allowed us to start harvesting all the varietals, which matured at an earlier stage than usual. Thanks to these practices, grapes were healthy and rich and slightly higher in concentration, but we managed to select a good crop.
Tasting Note
With a deep violet color, the wine displays clean; on the nose elegant aromas of spices, wild herbs and red fruits. On the palate, the wine is soft and elegant, a unique blend of sage, myrtle, rosemary, vanilla flavors and fine tannins. Notes of red fruits, pepper and liquorice add an interesting spiciness before a harmonious and persistent finish.
