Emilia Nardi

Owner

The youngest daughter of founder Silvio Nardi, Emilia Nardi took over management of the estate at the age of 30. Emilia grew up visiting the Montalcino estate and worked alongside her father for 10 years. She loves to spend time in the countryside and to travel the world. Nardi holds an executive MBA, and due to her business acumen and the consistent quality of her wines, she is distinguished as one of few female leaders in Brunello. In 2004, the Agricultural Ministry prized Nardi as a Female Agricultural Innovator. Nardi is respected for her successful re-launching of the brand by introducing clone selections and updating the label. When asked why she decided to introduce cloning she explained, “We do this for the glory not the money.”

Scientific Focus

Nardi has made a commitment to modernization as President of Tenute Silvio Nardi. She engaged viticulturist Andrea Paoletti to study how different clones of Sangiovese could best be matched to vineyard plots, leading to focused replanting. In 1996, she worked with the late Yves Glories, the famed Bordeaux enologist, to apply his new principles of phenolic ripeness to indicate harvest dates and adjust the vinification process. Maintaining close scientific relationships with the enology universities in Florence and Bordeaux, Tenute Silvio Nardi devotes 10% of its annual profits to R&D.

In her free time, Nardi enjoys swimming, gardening and hosting friends at her home.
