On the Bolgherese provincial road, in the heart of the best production of Bolgheri wines, the Folonari family cultivates about 17 acres of Merlot destined for the production of Baia al Vento. It is a vineyard characterized by soils rich in minerals and iron that give the wine structure, elegance and abundance of aroma.

Harvest Note
The 2022 vintage was characterized by the absence of rain from the final stages of winter until most of the summer. This favored an early bud break and all the subsequent phenological phases. The summer was generally warm, with a few thunderstorms that allowed the grapes to ripen properly, and at harvest they were healthy, with a good balance between sugars and acidity and excellent aromatic expression.
Tasting Note
A clear purple-red wine with an enticing bouquet of ripe cherry, currant, blackberry, and subtle notes of chocolate and tobacco. On the palate, it is dry and full-bodied, with sweet, silky tannins and a long, persistent finish that highlights its complexity and elegance.
Food Pairing
Pairs well with meats. Villa di Nozzole recommends pairing with wild boar stew with chanterelles and blueberries.

About the Grape

Merlot
Merlot makes plump, succulent wines to drink young or opulently massive wines for aging. Has silky, blackberry and currant fruit, with spice, earth, tobacco and chocolate notes, and soft tannins.
Cabernet Franc
Cabernet Franc usually shows tart red cherry and wild currant aromas and flavors with an herbal, spicy character. In the Loire, esp. Chinon and Saumur-Champigny, this grape shows firm minerality.
