Goldert Vineyard’s slope is oriented east, southeast and enjoys an appreciable amount of sunshine at a considerable altitude for Alsace of between 820 feet and 1150 feet. The vineyard benefits from late maturation, guaranteeing wines with well-balanced acidity. Zind-Humbrecht's dedication to terroir expression guides all winemaking practices, which include extended pressing cycles, abbreviated clarification cycles (to retain natural yeasts and proteins in the must), natural malolactic fermentation and extended aging on the lees. The wine is aged 18 months in 40-year-old French barrels.

Harvest Note
The weather patterns were unusual yet resulted in a fine high-quality crop in most locations. The winter was extremely cold, and total rainfall for January through July was more than twice the normal amount. This replenished the soil moisture while the vines growth cycle was largely undisturbed. The summer months brought more stable, warm and dry conditions. Harvest proceeded over a two-month period, which allowed a precise approach to each terroir.
Tasting Note
Intensely fragrant with elements of exotic fruit, stones, and bergamot tea supported by brisk acidity that lengthens the refined and complex finish.

About the Grape

Moscato Bianco / Muscat d’Alsace
Shows exotic aromas of tropical fruits, flowers, rose petals and citrus blossoms, and bright, clean fresh grape flavors, with a note of acidity. Sweet and fortified wines show honey and caramel notes.
Muscat Ottonel
Muscat Ottonel is the most delicate member of the Vitis Vinifera Muscat family in terms of color, aroma and flavor. Sensitive to noble rot, Muscat Ottonel is often used in late harvest or dessert wines.
