Taylor Fladgate holds one of the most extensive reserves of very old cask aged Port of any producer. They include a collection of rare Single Harvest Ports. These are Ports from a single year which age to full maturity in seasoned oak casks. Taylor Fladgate has decided to make a limited release, each year, of a Single Harvest Port made 50 years previously. The tenth in the series is the 1976 Single Harvest.
An exceptionally dry winter and hot summer created near-drought conditions, stressing older vines and reducing yields by over 30%. Rain arrived in late August, followed by a cool September that supported steady ripening. Harvest began September 23 with healthy, concentrated fruit, though late rains introduced some rot, particularly in the Lower Douro.
Lustrous coppery color with an amber rim. Aromas of gingerbread, honeysuckle, orange, and caramel lead to a smooth palate of rum raisin, citrus, and tropical fruit, layered with butterscotch and honey. Precise, elegant finish with crisp acidity.
