The grapes of this Pinot Noir are 100% hand-harvested from selected blocks at our Estate-owned Te Muna Road Vineyard, one of the most prestigious growing sites within the Martinborough region of New Zealand and from other distinct areas of the appellation. The grapes are destemmed (85%) prior to whole-bunch fermentation in a combination of open top stainless steel tanks and French oak cuvees using indigenous yeasts. The wine ages nine months in French oak barriques, 7% new, before being fined, course filtered and bottled.

Harvest Note
2020 was wet through Spring but warm and dry through late summer and fall, resulting in an absolutely iconic vintage for Pinot Noir.
Tasting Note
Dark burgundy in color with an ever so slight purple hue. Distinctly pinot noir on the nose with aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry and hints of brioche. The palate is voluminous in flavor, with soft, plush tannins. The fresh and vibrant red fruits are present, but the concentration in a wine of this type is rare—one of the truly great Pinot years.

Unique Selling Points
  • The higher elevation Te Muna Road Vineyard is harvested about a week later than nearby sites in Martinborough, resulting in grapes with terrific freshness and acidity.
  • Gentle handling with whole-bunch fermentation and delicate French oak Barrique treatment ensures a floral wine which embodies the distinctive, intense fruit characters of the region.

About the Grape

Pinot Noir
In France, makes a silky, deceptively powerful wine of elegant, complex aromas and subtle, red fruit flavors, with earthy, floral, mushroom and mineral notes. In California, shows ripe, sweet characters.
