Some vintages, mostly when we feel that this grape shows particularly well, we do vinify a small batch of Chardonnay aside in small casks. The later ripening climatic conditions of both the vintage 2021 and the location of the Windsbuhl shows in the racy and high acidity present in this wine. The Limestone soil enhances the structure of the wine and brings complexity. Unfortunately, in 2021, the Chardonnay was probably the worst affected grape by the adverse climatic conditions which resulted in a very small production. Luckily, this is an outstanding example of this rare wine.

Harvest Note
2021 was a challenging vintage which resulted in small volumes of extraordinary wines. The frost of April 6th significantly reduced the final harvest volumes. June & July saw heavy rains leading to rapid growth but unfortunately mildew also. August and September were sunny and dry, with harvest from September 15th to October 2nd. The small crop fermented quickly, alcohols were below usual levels, and all wines fermented completey dry.
Tasting Note
Pale bright yellow colour. The nose immediately gives a sensation of a wine having a precise and tight structure. Discreet citrus fruit (lime), a slight ‘noble’ reduction that will need some time to develop (or decanting) with a lean focused minerality feel. With time the wine also develops intense toasty, nutty characteristics The wine is elegant and bright, it almost dances on the palate. Strict at first approach, it gradually becomes broader and more powerful. Dry finish. The acidity intensity is remarkable on this wine, being ripe, salivating and complex. A true Windsbuhl!
