Kobrand is proud to announce the addition of Mullan Road Cellars, a new project by Dennis Cakebread, to its portfolio of fine wines. The announcement reflects Kobrand’s long term partnership representing the Cakebread family in the Americas since 1987.
Mullan Road Cellars is a unique Washington wine project led by Dennis Cakebread, a 40+ year wine veteran of the prestigious Cakebread Cellars in Napa Valley, CA, who landed in Walla Walla, WA in 2010 in search of another winery venture. Upon arrival Dennis connected with winemaker Aryn Morell, a Washington native with extensive experience in the Columbia Valley and Napa Valley, and Mullan Road Cellars was born.
“Mullan Road Cellars focuses on small-production, age worthy Bordeaux-style red blends. We select fruits from prime vineyards in the soon-to-be-recognized Royal Slope appellation along with the famed Seven Hills Vineyard in the Walla Walla Valley appellation, one of the most recognized locations in Washington”, explains Dennis Cakebread. “I was drawn to Washington State for its consistent wine quality, friendly personalities, and camaraderie. Mullan Road Cellars has been a journey, from learning the area and getting to know the people and communities, to the continuous exploration for great areas and vineyards. We are thrilled to finally launch a project that has been in development for years.”
The winery’s namesake, the historic Mullan Road built in 1859, was a 611-mile wagon trail into eastern Washington via the Rockies and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Mullan Road Cellars’ illustrated label was inspired by photos of the actual Mullan Road, conveying adventure and a pioneering spirit. Kobrand Corporation’s CEO Bob DeRoose shared the excitement for the partnership commenting, “We are proud to support this project by Dennis Cakebread and it’s an honor to add Mullan Road Cellars as our first winery from Washington to our iconic portfolio of wines.”
Mullan Road Cellars’ first release, Columbia Valley Red Wine 2012, is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. The wine will be available nationally starting October 1.
