The House of Delamain, located in the commune of Jarnac, in southwestern France, has been making exceptional blends and bottles all resting in dame-jeannes (or demijohns) since 1824. As a cognac house of great repute, its recent bicentennial release is nothing short of exceptional and a testament to its tried-and-true techniques, married with the artistry of today.
The liquid in question, L’Edition Rare du Bicentenaire, is a blend of five extremely rare Grande-Champagne eaux-de-vie. These were selected by one of the five remaining Delamain family members over the past century to have managed the house. While L’Édition Rare may be the centerpiece, and a large part of the celebrations, there is another commemorative released by Delamain to honor the year. L’Oiseau Rare, which translates to rare bird, is what’s called an hors d’âge Cognac and was created by former cellar master Dominique Touteau over his decades-long career.
