Grechetto is best known as part of the blend of DOC Orvieto. It can also be a component in vin santo, made by drying the grapes on straw mats. It provides richness and structure to a blend and is often combined with Chardonnay, Trebbiano, Malvasia and Verdello.
Grechetto is a low yielding vine that produces concentrated flavors. It has thick skin giving it good resistence to downy mildew. It ripens late and achieves high levels of sugar.
Grechetto is of Greek origin.
