Steve Allen, an extremely knowledgeable grape grower with more than 30 years of experience in Napa Valley, serves as viticulturist and a founding member of Sequoia Grove. His unofficial job duties also include construction consultant, vineyard consultant and historian. 

Steve came to Rutherford in 1979 at the urging of his brother, Jim Allen, who had bought the future site of Sequoia Grove Vineyards and had a dream of turning it into a wine jewel, like the many estates in Europe he had grown to love. As a jack-of-all-trades, Steve was the perfect man to call. Born in Pennsylvania, Steve’s varied background experiences included high school studies in animal husbandry, a BA in fine arts from Colorado University, and professional experiences ranging from owning a construction business to selling life insurance and vacuum cleaners to working at Wyatt labs for cancer research, and a two-year electrician’s apprenticeship.
