The Montes Classic Chardonnay hails from some of the finest Chardonnay-growing sites in Chile's Casablanca and Curico Valleys. The Casablanca Valley contributes a cool climate expression of Chardonnay with fresh citrus and floral notes, while the warmer Curico Valley adds tropical components to the blend including pineapple, peaches and apricots.

2021 vintage
Harvest Note
After many years of continual drought, the 2020–2021 season began with a winter of considerable rainfall, concentrated in just a few very rainy days. Spring had some rare touches of frost, that luckily did not affect production. The vineyards showed very good vegetative expression and demonstrated flawless fruit set. The summer season was cooler than expected, with a long, drawn-out ripening process. Ripening had barely finished when there was significant rain across almost the entire winegrowing area of Chile. This had different effects depending on the local intensity of the rain. In the coastal area, winemakers had to remove fruit and leaves in order to increase ventilation and light for the bunches, ensuring the health of the grapes through to harvest. In practical terms, this vintage will be remembered for its fresh white wines, with low alcohol but intense aromatic expression, vibrant natural acidity, and excellent ageing potential.
Tasting Note
Aromas of fresh fruit with clear papaya, mango and grapefruit followed by notes of vanilla and toast.
Food Pairing
Pairs well with salmon ceviche, sea bass with sautéed mushrooms and rice, or fettuccini alfredo.

About the Grape

Chardonnay
Though it has a distinctive profile, Chardonnay reflects other factors such as soil composition and vinification technique. Chardonnay is a reliable, hardy and prolific vine whose only real vulnerabilities are frost and uneven development of fruit.
