Les Jalets is the ancient term for “galets”, the large round stones that were carried down from the Alps by glaciers during the last ice age. The Syrah grapes are from vineyards located on the low, stony terraces of Les Chassis in Crozes-Hermitage. The stones soak up heat from the sun during the day and release it at night, enabling grapes to mature at an optimal steady pace. The organic grapes grow on 25-year-old Syrah vines. The grapes are hand-harvested, carefully sorted, and destemmed. The maceration lasts for three weeks with daily pump overs. The wine is aged for 12 months in a combination of French oak truncated-cone vats and stainless-steel vats.

Harvest Note
The vintage began with heavy rainfall in November and December, followed by a very dry late winter and early spring. Budbreak occurred in early April. Frequent rain and cool temperatures caused a slight delay from late May. Flowering took place in mid-May under good conditions. Veraison came earlier than average. Overall, weather conditions allowed for healthy ripening of the grapes.
