This historic parcel spans over 32 acres and has been recognized for top quality for centuries. In fact this vineyard had its name appended to the nearby village of Gevrey as well as the other eight contiguous Grand Cru parcels. These vines face east on a moderate slope with deep red clay subsoils. With its neighbor Clos de Bèze, these are among the most imposing red wines of Burgundy.
Harvest Note
Winter and early Spring were unusually warm and dry however March brought much-needed rainfall which led to homogenous flowering in May. Stormy weather in June was followed by mild late summer, and an unusual September heat wave. Harvest was finished on September 16th, and by picking only in the cool morning hours freshness was preserved.
Tasting Note
Bold, firm and powerful are the first impressions at release. The tannic structure and balanced acidity suggest a potential for long aging, after which an immense range of scents and flavors are apparent. Dried flowers, leather, roasted cherries and violets are all in the mix, with additional spice notes developing over time.
