The terroir of Hengst was first mentioned in the 9th century, and various parcels have been exploited since that time. This is a limestone terroir rich in iron and with full sunlight exposure, and ideal for the production of dry gewurztraminer with expressive texture. This is a biodynamic wine fermented naturally in large passive oak casks.

2023 vintage
Harvest Note
The summer of 2023 is mainly marked by drought and a technical maturation later than the physiological maturation. This explains why, with such favorable weather, the 2023 wines are harmonious and show a lower alcohol level than most previous years. Acidities are normal and particularly ripe. The 2023 wines have a beautiful aromatic expression and a ripe mouthfeel without excessive weight. A good phenolic maturity should also guarantee a good aging potential on the great terroirs.
Tasting Note
Dense yet reserved nose of spices, pepper, anise and oregano. The aggressive limestone of Hengst gives the wine a tight, precise structure, where the noble tannins bring freshness and length on the finish. The aromatic is revealed more in the mouth than on the nose at this still young stage of the evolution of this wine.

About the Grape

Gewürztraminer
Gewürztraminer has unmistakably heady intensity of fragrance, with pungent aromas of litchis, tropical fruits and rose petals. Its flavors are ample, fruity and spicy rather than complex.
