Samas is named after the Punic God of the Sun. Vermentino and Chardonnay grapes grown in a predominantly calcerous and sandy soil are hand harvested at dawn to maintain characteristic varietal notes and freshness. Cryomaceration techniques prevent oxidation, resulting in a bright, vibrant wine. With prolonged fermentation using selected yeasts at controlled temperatures (60˚ Fahrenheit), the wine remains on the less for approximately 40 days. Vinified separately, the varieties are blended and then rest in small concrete vats for 3 months to complete the maturation and natural stabilization of Samas, which is neither filtered nor clarified.

Harvest Note
The 2022 vintage was similar to recent vintages in Sardinia. After a rainy November and December, the rest of the winter was dry. Spring was also lacking in rainfall, with only some showers in April. The summer was long and hot, yet without the heat waves characteristic of previous vintages. A dry September allowed for a regular harvest. The quality of the grapes was good with enough acidity and phenolic concentration. Samas remains at a top quality this vintage.
Tasting Note
Vivid yellow straw color with soft, green hints. This silky and well-balanced wine has notes of citrus and tropical fruits with Mediterranean herbs including sage, and a fresh minerality.
Food Pairing
Grilled fish, sushi, white meat

About the Grape

Chardonnay
Though it has a distinctive profile, Chardonnay reflects other factors such as soil composition and vinification technique. Chardonnay is a reliable, hardy and prolific vine whose only real vulnerabilities are frost and uneven development of fruit.
Vermentino
Vermentino produces big, ripe, deeply-colored wines with balance, substance and character. The wine shows delicate, persistent citrus, herbal and almond aromas, and similar, supple fruit flavors.
