In the commune of Aloxe-Corton, in the northern end of the Côte de Beaune, more than half of the vineyard area is Grand Cru vineyards. Les Grèves is a powerful wine with a structure similar to that of Côte de Nuits wines. The southeast exposure and siliceous soil gives power and delicacy to the wine. Pinot Noir grapes are fermented in vats for up to 4 weeks, then the wine is matured for 18 to 20 months in oak barrels before bottling.

Tasting Note

Powerful yet delicate, this deeply colored wine has aromas and flavors of red berries and spice, with silky tannins and perfect structure. It should develop for five years in the bottle before being opened, and will improve for 15 to 20 years of cellaring.

Food Pairing

Pairs well with highly seasoned meats, game and most cheeses.

Vineyard Details

Côte de Beaune Grands Crus
Soil and aspect are crucial to Grand Cru vineyard siting, and soils vary widely in the Côte de Beaune. The Grand Cru white Montrachet is perfectly situated on a strip of east-facing limestone for an intense wine of great depth and aging potential. Surrounding Grands Crus include Chevalier-Montrachet, on stonier soil, and Bâtard-Montrachet, on heavier soil. At the northern border of the Côte de Beaune, the hill of Corton produces both a white and a red Grand Cru: the white on the upper south- and west-facing slopes on brown marl soil with limestone washed down from above; the powerful red is produced on a band below the white. In France, makes a silky, deceptively powerful wine of elegant, complex aromas and subtle, red fruit flavors, with earthy, floral, mushroom and mineral notes. In California, shows ripe, sweet characters.
