Michele Chiarlo Celebrates 10th Anniversary of La Court Art Park in the Vineyards

August 5, 2013

On July 6th, 1,100 guests and journalists attended a 10th Anniversary party to celebrate La Court Art Park, a special part of the Michele Chiarlo estate. The Aluffi estate in Castelnuovo Calcea is composed of twenty hectares (50 acres) of Barbera vines, three farmhouses and two hills. In the heart of this grand estate, the La Court and Cipressi vineyards contain the La Court Art Park, an outdoor sculpture garden also known as “Orme sul la Court,” which was inaugurated in 2003.

The La Court and Cipressi vineyards produce the superb quality Barbera grapes used to make Chiarlo’s La Court Barbera d’Asti Superiore Nizza DOCG, a wine made only in exceptional years. A large vertical tasting of La Court Barbera d’Asti began the party’s numerous events. During this, enologist Stefano Chiarlo observed, “Within 10 years, Barbera will become third in order of importance among the great red wines from Piedmont, after Barolo and Barbaresco.” Note: A pioneer in Piedmont, Michele Chiarlo was the first winery to utilize malolactic fermentation to vinify Barbera. For decades, it has been at the forefront of raising the profile of Barbera as a serious wine for aging.

Other events included traditional Piemontese cuisine prepared by highly-reputed chef Walter Ferreto, a musical performance by Andrea Bosca, film screenings and an award presentation to Gianluca Morino, President of dell’Associazione Produttori del Nizza, for his work promoting the Nizza DOCG. The party culminated in the unveiling of the sculpture “The Door in the Hills” by renowned Italian artist Ugo Medlar.
