Mt. Etna is one of the most unlikely places on earth for high quality wine to be grown.
My first thought when I stepped into a vineyard owned by Feudo Maccari, on Mt Etna in Sicily, was there are like soldiers. Unlike vines in much of the world that are trellised, whose branches extend horizontally from their trunks like arms linking one to another, these Nero d’Avola vines on Etna grow as self-standing individuals.
