Sonoma County is one big Goldilocks zone for grapevines. Its sprawling expanse covers numerous microclimates where a diverse range of grapes can thrive. This week’s Tasting Highlights includes Zinfandel, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon from areas well-suited to specific grapes, as well as regional blends, with scores up to 93 points.
Fleshy in texture up front, the St. Francis Merlot Sonoma Valley Reserve 2022 takes on structure midpalate while drawing in currant, cedar and dusty herb flavors that end with firm tannins. Best from 2026 through 2032. 580 cases made – 91 points.
