Extensive renovations, including a rebuilt wine cellar and newly planted vineyards of indigenous and international varieties, have contributed to the success of the Orvieto Classico and international blends produced at Castello di Titignano.

Points of Distinction

  • Salviano produces Orvieto Classico and international blends from the Umbrian hills
  • Vineyards are recently planted and winemaking facilities are state-of-the-art.

Nestled among Umbria’s rolling hills on the southern bank of Lake Corbara, the Salviano property is owned by Incisa della Rocchetta family, owners of legendary Sassicaia.

Salviano and the Titignano Estate

The Salviano estate occupies 4,940 acres surrounding Lake Corbara and the banks of the Tiber River in the heart of the Orvieto DOC production zone. Salviano is part of the Titignano estate, a much larger property under the same ownership, located across the lake in the medieval village of the same name. Built in A.D. 937, the Titignano castle and its court grew by the 17th century to include the village and the surrounding land, including the Salviano castle and its property. The Titignano castle has recently benefited from extensive renovations, with its main buildings refurbished to include guest accommodations and a restaurant.

Winegrowing at Salviano

The Salviano vineyards are planted to Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Trebbiano Toscano (Procanico clone) and Grechetto, and extend over 173 acres. These newly planted vineyards of indigenous and international varieties produce excellent-quality red and white wines, from the classic Orvieto Classico Superiore to progressive luxury red blends.

Salviano’s state-of-the-art vinification and cellaring facilities are located in the Salviano castle on Lake Corbara. Stainless steel vats are used for the fermentation of both white and red wines and barrel aging takes place in a cellar excavated from the tufa limestone beneath the property.
