On land that has supported winegrapes for seven centuries, Tenuta di Nozzole produces wines that respect both tradition and innovation.

Points of Distinction

  • A producer of diverse Tuscan wines, from traditional Chianti to highly ranked IGT Cabernet
  • Vineyards have 700 years of winegrowing history
  • Located in the heart of the Chianti Classico zone
  • One of the properties of the Folonari family, which makes distinctive, small-production wines in the finest appellations of Tuscany

On land that has supported winegrapes for seven centuries, Tenuta di Nozzole produces wines that respect both tradition and innovation: Chianti Classicos ranging from traditional to fruit-forward, and an IGT Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. Located north of the village of Greve at Passo dei Pecorai, the Nozzole estate is located in an impressively rugged mountainous area of melancholy beauty and covers roughly 1,000 acres, of which approximately a third are planted in vines and olive groves. The Folonari family purchased the estate in 1971 from Letizia Rimediotti-Mattioli and her husband, who had been producing wine for the Folonaris on the land for several years.

The Land of Chianti

The Estate produces Chianti Classico in Vintage, Reserve, Gran Selezione and Vin Santo. Sangiovese is the leading grape in Nozzole, where it expresses its maximum potential and elegance. It is located in a unique ecosystem of Mediterranean scrubland in the hills of Greve in Chianti.

Luxury Villa in the Chianti Classico Region

Casavecchia di Nozzole is an independent farmhouse located in the Tenuta di Nozzole, in one of the most famous areas of Italian wine production in Tuscany. The property is immersed in the vineyards and enjoys an ideal location for the discovery of the innumerable scenic and architectural jewels of the area. Surrounded by a large garden with a private swimming pool, it can accommodate up to 10 people and has a kitchen and a living room with a fireplace.

Wines since the end of the 1700s

Ambrogio and Giovanni Folonari are the heirs of a history that spans the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The founder, Lorenzo Folonari, was born in Valtellina in 1729 and moved his family to Val Camonica, an area destined to become the cradle of a line of entrepreneurs. There, they will bind their name to entrepreneurship – first through trade and then with the production of wine.

In 1882, the brothers Italo and Francesco Folonari transferred the company headquarters, then known as Fratelli Folonari, from Val Camonica to Bresci and in 1911, they bought the historic Tuscan winery Ruffino. Ruffino was known for its distribution in Italy and its Chianti Classico, bottled in traditional wine flasks wrapped in straw.

VILLA OF NOZZOLE

The Villa di Nozzole is located in the heart of the historic Tenuta di Nozzole, owned by the Folonari family since 1971. The building dates back to the seventeenth century and recalls the Renaissance architectural models: impressive but elegant, facing south west enjoys magnificent sunsets and a breathtaking view of vineyards, olive groves and surrounding hills.

The property has a strategic location, just 15 minutes from Greve in Chianti and not far from other well-known locations such as Florence, Pisa, Lucca, Siena and surroundings. The interiors are warm and welcoming, furnished with refined elegance. The Villa di Nozzole is on 3 floors, has 9 double rooms all with private bathroom, large common areas, two professional kitchens, meeting room, billiard room and garden with swimming pool.
