Samas is named for the Punic or Phoenician God of the Sun. Grapes grown in calcareous and sandy soil are hand harvested at dawn to maintain aromas. Whole clusters are pressed in a cold inert atmosphere. These cryomaceration techniques prevent oxidation. The must is inoculated with select yeasts and undergoes prolonged fermentation at controlled temperatures (60˚F) in stainless steel tanks with continuous stirring for about 40 days and then ages on the less for 2.5 months. Vinified separately, the varieties are blended and the wine rests in small concrete vats for 3 months to complete maturation and undergo a natural stabilization. The wine is neither filtered nor clarified.

Harvest Note
The 2025 harvest began August 8 with Chardonnay, followed by Vermentino through early September. A dry winter and summer led to earlier picking to preserve freshness. Yields were slightly lower than usual, but quality was excellent, particularly for Chardonnay.
Tasting Note
Vivid yellow straw color with soft greenish hints, the typical bouquet of tropical fruit and citrus notes with a distinguish Mediterranean flavor, such as the sage fragrancy. On the palate this wine is silky and well balanced, with good mineral and freshness notes.

About the Grape

Chardonnay
Though it has a distinctive profile, Chardonnay reflects other factors such as soil composition and vinification technique. Chardonnay is a reliable, hardy and prolific vine whose only real vulnerabilities are frost and uneven development of fruit.
Vermentino
Vermentino produces big, ripe, deeply-colored wines with balance, substance and character. The wine shows delicate, persistent citrus, herbal and almond aromas, and similar, supple fruit flavors.
