A ripe yet relatively cool and pure nose reluctantly offers up a pretty array of spice, soft earth and mix of both red and dark pinot fruit. There is solid volume to the caressing but solidly powerful and serious larger-scaled flavors.

The 2019 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has a beguiling bouquet of pure dark cherry and violet aromas, quite mineral-driven and wonderfully delineated. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine grip, and touches of graphite and white pepper toward the sustained finish.

Like the Chambertin, this is both ripe and brooding with slightly riper aromas of roasted plum, black cherry and warm earth, all of which is trimmed in enough wood to notice. The caressing yet powerful big-bodied flavors flash good muscle on the raspy and very firm finish.

The 2018 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has an outgoing, generous bouquet of sensual red cherries, crushed strawberry and veins of blueberry that gain intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a dash of white pepper on the entry.

The 2017 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has a straightforward, well-defined if not overly complex bouquet. There is a sense of airiness to this Grand Cru. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin.
