Dark and boasting flavors of blueberry, blackberry and plum, this red is suave and inviting. Vanilla and toasty oak notes add detail as this remains fresh and long on the finish, where spice and licorice hints linger.

This is a great surprise. The Tenuta di Biserno 2023 Il Pino di Biserno, composed primarily of Cabernet Franc with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a small portion of Petit Verdot, shows appealing balance and tension alongside the plump, generous personality characteristic of the 2023 vintage. Fresh and easy-drinking without any sense of heaviness, the wine hits all the right marks, combining clarity of fruit with poise. It is fermented in stainless steel, with 85% of the wine matured for one year in French oak, both new and used, while the remaining 15% stays in stainless steel to preserve freshness. I happily recommend this bottle, especially if roast meats such as rosemary-scented lamb or beef are on the menu. At this price point, I recommend this wine over the 2022 Biserno.

Restrained and estery at the moment, with brilliant red and black fruits, clove and Mediterranean herbs with cedar wood and cocoa powder. Medium-bodied with firm velvety tannins, almost biting yet integrated and sweet, crisp acidity and woven spicy aftertaste. Drink or hold.

Lush and rich dark fruit style with blueberries and cassis, Mediterranean herbs, eucalyptus, oregano and subtle spices. Full-bodied, velvety and chocolatey, refreshing and toasty with tight and focused depth. Drink or hold.

Fragrant and softly herbal blackcurrant notes on the nose. A little cloying and a touch chewy on the palate, this is ripe and concentrated – it’s full of flesh and life with round tannins and concentrated dark berry fruit. It’s confident and there’s a lot here but it’s a touch exuberant right now. Still, it has good length and quite a confident overall profile. Petit Verdot also in the blend.
