A longtime leased component of the Sequoia Grove stable, Tonella is on the eastern side of Ruthford, with one side butting up against Beckstoffer’s Georges III Vineyard. Aged 22 months in 100% new French oak like all the other single-vineyard wines here, the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Tonella Vineyard shows a subtle mocha edge on the nose, which also encompasses violets, blackberries, cassis and faintly herbal nuances. Medium- to full-bodied on the palate, the wine is smooth and silky, with fine-grained tannins on the long finish.
