An elegant wine, with real power behind the crushed apple, honeycomb and kumquat flavors that spill across a plush palate. Shows heather and green basil accents, which bring savoriness, while the finish reverberates with stony minerality.
A profoundly stony wine that may be too radical for some, but we find it to be totally spectacular. Astonishing concentration and purity, but those words are barely adequate to describe this great masterpiece. Incredibly deep stone fruit aromas with a delicate smokiness that’s totally fascinating
The 2020 Riesling Sommerberg is the second vintage of this steep cru, and Humbrecht replanted the 32.5-are vineyard on decomposed granite in 2012 and 2013 in high density (9,500 plants per hectare, all from their own massal selections from the Brand, which was planted in the 1920s). The nose of this intensely yellow-golden grand cru is impressively pure and aromatic, reminiscent of mangoes and wet, weathered stones. On the palate, this is an elegant, intense and fruity yet still not dramatic or tensioned Riesling with fine tannins and fine orange/lemon bitters.
This creamy wine seduces with an opulent mix of apricot, honeyed almond, baked apple and beeswax. Lush yet vibrant, with ample spice–cardamom, allspice and ginger–and saline-laced acidity driving the long, mouthwatering close
Grapefruit zest, apple juice and grass aromas are intense and immediately intriguing. This wine is playful and light-bodied, its acidity dancing across the tongue. It ends on a juicy, fruity finish with some petrol characteristics just starting to come through. Its acidity makes it a great pairing for something a little fatty, like duck or pâté.
