Shows a nice mix of elegance and muscle, with grilled rosemary and singed orange peel notes up front, plus graphite-laced blackberry at the center. Offers savory olive and meaty undertones on the finish around polished tannins.

The 2022 Alpha Syrah opens with a classic bouquet of black fruits, cracked pepper, cured meat and green olives, revealing a velvety, precise palate. It concludes with a long, nuanced finish framed by fine, drying tannins and a gentle touch of acidity.

The grapes were sourced from two vineyards that grow on granite soils in the Colchagua Valley. This is an earthy and smooth Syrah, with meaty notes, black olive and dark fruit perfuming the nose. Plums and a hint of balsamic combine on the firm palate, enhancing its moderate complexity.

The 2022 Syrah Montes Alpha blends grapes from Apalta and Marchigüe. Aged in up to 30% new barrels, it nods to the Rhône with notes of spice, charcuterie and worn leather framed by a touch of oak. On the palate, this is plush and ample, with a slightly clingy finish and hints of aging. The 2022 is a classic Chilean-style Syrah, well-rooted in its tradition.

This is a consistent syrah that shows a light peppery edge to the blackberries and black cherries. Lots of fruit here, with a subtle touch of graphite. Very fine-grained on the palate with powdery tannins that extend the lengthy finish. Still generous, but restrained. One of the best ever?
