Among the best-known and most highly regarded of Volnay terroirs, the Clos des Chênes is a large parcel that extends across the Southeast-facing slope with white soils near the top and red clays below. The wines are exemplary Volnays with charming red fruit and soft tannins even at a young age. Pinot Noir here is harvested manually and brought to the nearby winery for triage, destemming, and natural fermentation in passive oak vats. After alcoholic fermentation is complete the wine is racked into oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and extended aging. Approximately 16 months later the cuvee is reassembled for bottling.

Harvest Note
2023 was a hot and dry growing season which was saved by significant rain in June. This allowed the vines to withstand summer heat and drought and led to ideal sanitary conditions and a modest yield yet concentrated vintage.
Tasting Note
This wine perfectly expresses the signature Volnay attributes of elegance, complexity, and subtle opulence. With bright red berry aromas offset with stony earth notes and supple rounded tannins, this wine is superbly versatile and generous soon after bottling. Despite this forward nature, these wines will easily age for 10 - 15 years to good effect.
