This Malbec is sourced primarily from Montes' Finca Apalta Estate vineyard with some additions from their Marchigüe Estate vineyard. These two unique vineyards feature granite-rich soils in differing degrees of decomposition. Both have considerable variation in the clay content, depth, and organic matter from the influence of erosion and deposits from local rivers over time. The soils are generally deep in the flat areas and thinner at the foot of the mountains and at higher elevations.
Harvest Note
In Colchagua and much of Chile’s Central Valley, 2023 was marked by intense, prolonged heat resulting in early, rapid ripening and reduced yields due to grape dehydration. Consistent irrigation helped mitigate stress in vineyards, but grape health remained excellent despite the challenges. The harvest up to four weeks ahead in some areas and logistically demanding, with many varieties ripening simultaneously. Stylistically, the vintage produced reds with ripe fruit, moderate extraction, and cleaner, fresher profiles when picked early, showing the value of precise vineyard and cellar decisions under extreme conditions.
Tasting Note
Lively purplish-ruby red in color, with aromas of fresh strawberries, blackcurrants, floral notes, and a hint of cherry liqueur. The palate is well-balanced, with vibrant acidity that adds juiciness and drinkability. Medium-bodied, with soft tannins and a long, persistent finish.
