Puligny-Montrachet shares with its neighbor Chassagne-Montrachet some of the finest white wine vineyards in the world. This commune’s Premier Cru vineyards stretch across the upper half of the Puligny slope, from Meursault to Chassagne. Les Combettes is located on the eastern edge of Puligny on fairly shallow clay and chalk soil with small stones. In winemaking, the Chardonnay grapes are fermented and matured in oak barrels for an average of 18 months.
With generally lighter acidity, this wine is rich with hazelnut, tobacco and truffle aromas and flavors, especially after several years of bottle aging. It will develop in the bottle for 8 to 12 years.
