Like opening a jar of fresh blackberry preserves, the 2018 Syrah Maharis blossoms in the glass. Notes of stone dust, sweet smoke, lavender and violets frame its vibrant fruit-forward expression well. It’s silky and unexpectedly lifted in feel, with an elegant display of tart, mineral-tinged berries and spices, all carried across a core of vibrant acidity. The Maharis turns grippy and structured through the finale, where a coating of saturating tannin pinches at the cheeks, as savory herbs and hints of tar linger incredibly long.
